O magnum mysterium
Product Details
Description
Will Todd’s setting of the Christmas Latin text, O magnum mysterium (O great mystery), was commissioned in 2023 for Unionville High School Chorale and Brandywine Valley Chorale and their conductor Jason Throne. Scored for mixed voices (SATB with occasional divisi) and piano, with optional parts for soprano saxophone and percussion (2 tom-toms, bass drum and suspended cymbal), it incorporates the composer’s lyrical choral style and, through constant semiquaver movement in the piano and a recurring flowing ‘alleluia’ section, a sense of rhythmic energy and joy. A magical addition to an intermediate choir’s Christmas concert or service.
