In his orchestral work Wilfried Hiller explores various facets of his adoptive home town. Percussion instruments, especially three beer barrels, play a major role. The first movement, Reverenz, combines a ‘zwiefacher’ with lyrical melodies. The second movement, Giuletta a Monaco, deals with Munich’s twinning with Verona. The fast-paced wind tunes of Moriskentanz contrast with the lament over the plague in Sarabande des Todes. In the finale Die Tötung des Münchner Lindwurms the cellarmen defeat the Black Death in Munich with the ‘schäfflertanz’.
