Laudate Dominum

Pēteris Vasks does not set the traditional text of the Latin mass for his Laudate Dominum (originally composed for choir and organ), Choir and orchestra perform in a contrasting interplay: three majestic orchestral passages in an emphatic D minor are each answered by the choir in meditative sections without text. The final orchestral interlude is followed by a celebratory halleluja chorus in the brilliant key of D major. The united choral and orchestral forces ultimately achieve fff in the ecstatic finale.
