Description
In Last Night, in Istanbul, I continue the story of my purely 'Turkish world', a continuation of a theme found in my earlier works such as Turquoise and Strange Stone. I am not trying to use concrete Turkish tunes, rhythms, maqams (scales), but am simply aiming to express, in the most pure and uninhibited way, the essence of walking down the old and new Istanbul streets in 2006. Last Night, in Istanbul is commissioned by and dedicated to opus 21 and scored for ensemble with Turkish percussion instruments. Kamran Ince
