Description
When I was commissioned by the Orchestre National de Lyon to write this new piece I was asked to use quotations or characteristic musical elements or features from Haydn’s Nelson Mass or Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3, which will be heard in the same concert. I chose two characteristic elements from the second movement of the Piano Concerto – the harmony of the cadence as well as melodic figuration. Accordingly, Ex Animo has a new particular rondo form, in which the alternation of refrain and episode suggests the eternal development. Josef Bardanashvili
