Description
The title Dream/Window comes from a Zen priest of the Muromachi period, Soseki Muso (Mu = dream, So = window). Among the gardens laid out by him are many famous ones by which my music has been profoundly influenced. And in Kyoto, a progressive tendency coexists with an entrenched conservatism, concealing a dynamism diff ering from that of Tokyo or Osaka and the core of my image of Kyoto is this struggle of such opposing tendencies. To describe Kyoto with this music, the name ‘Muso (Dream/Window)’ seemed the perfect symbol to express the struggle. Toru Takemitsu
