Description
At the suggestion of the Lucerne Theatre, Elisabeth Naske and Theresita Colloredo chose the character of 'Red Zora' as protagonist for their fourth project together (after Die feuerrote Friederike, 2004, Die Glücksfee, 2005 and Die Omama im Apfelbaum, 2006).
Kurt Kläber, the author of this perennially popular book (and also now a TV series) was born in Jena in 1897. He was arrested for being a political activist and self-confessed communist after the Reichstag Fire, and emigrated to Switzerland together with his wife after his release. From 1941 he wrote, under the pseudonym of Kurt Held, four books about the girl Zora and her gang who, with courage, cunning and attitude, stand up against the greed, envy and injustice that characterizes the adult world in the Croatian town of Senj, represented by the unscrupulous fish farmer Karman and the policeman Begovic.
Die rote Zora not only provides exciting entertainment for a young audience (aged 10+) but is also a plea against the oppression and social exclusion of the weak and for social justice and solidarity.
