In many of his compositions, Pēteris Vasks articulates a desire for peace, including in Da pacem, Domine. The antiphon ’Da pacem, Domine in diebus nostris’ has been set to music countless times since its adaptation by Martin Luther in 1529. The musical settings frequently comment on the political situation of their own era (‘in our time’), warning future generations of the danger of religious schism, war and Terror.
