Description
Es gibt wohl keinen besseren „Botschafter Lettlands in Tönen“ als den Komponisten Peteris Vasks. Trauer über die Zerstörung der Natur, über den Verfall der nationalen Identität Lettlands, aber auch Hoffnung auf bessere Zeiten – diese Gedanken liegen seinen expressiven Kompositionen zugrunde, so auch dem 1979 komponierten „Cantabile für Streicher“. Zu Beginn der Komposition ist die Stimmung gedämpft und elegisch, gewinnt aber zunehmend an „Helligkeit“, bis, nach kurzem Abflauen der strömenden Bewegung, ein Impuls der hohen Streicher für ein erneutes Erwachen des Klangflusses sorgt.
