About the Series

Violin Junior is a fun and creative violin method for primary-aged children. The repertoire covers a wide range of styles from classical music to folk, world, jazz and popular music.

Creative games, composition and aural exercises are integral to the method and sit alongside a more traditional teaching approach, giving children a strong technical and musical foundation to their playing at the same time as encouraging their creativity and giving them the freedom to express their own musical ideas.

Large, clear notation is used in children’s books to make reading music easier.

  • Lesson Books include a wide variety of engaging music, duets for two students to play together and imaginative technical, aural, rhythm, composition and improvisation exercises.
  • The music is carefully structured so that new techniques and musical ideas are introduced one at a time.
  • Many of the pieces have engaging lyrics that can be used to help learn rhythm and melody.
  • “Top Tips” from Fiocco the Frog act as helpful musical and technical reminders for children when they are practising at home.

  • “Creative Corner”, “Listening Corner” and “Rhythm Corner” exercises help develop children’s creativity and general musicianship through engaging and light-hearted composition, improvisation, aural and rhythm activities.
  • “Now Try…” exercises offer more advanced activities, ideal for challenging and engaging keen learners.
  • “Fantastic Fiddle Facts” provide interesting and funny facts relating to music, composers and the violin.
  • Piano and Violin Accompaniments are available to purchase as downloads for all the pieces in the Lesson Books from www.schott-music.com

  • Theory Books are aimed specifically at violin players. Fun games and creative exercises cover music theory, rhythm, music reading, aural training, violin technique and composition.
  • Concert Books provide additional repertoire and enjoyable concert pieces. Violin accompaniments for all the pieces are printed alongside the student’s music. Piano accompaniments are also included for all the pieces in the book.
  • Stylistic performance and play-along tracks are available for all the pieces in the Lesson Books and Concert Books. Audio tracks are also available for the aural exercises in the Theory Books.
