About Mirosław Jacek Blaszczyk

Mirosław Jacek Blaszczyk, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, studied conducting in Katowice and Los Angeles. He has a particular interest in contemporary music, with per formances in Katowice as well as at the Warsaw Autumn and the Silesian Days of Contemporary Music. Blaszczyk was named Artistic Director of the Zabrze State Symphony Orchestra in 1986 and of the Białystok State Philharmonic in 1990. In 1995, he conducted the Białystok orchestra on a tour of the USA that included a 22performance in New York’s Carnegie Hall. From 1999 to 2002, he was Principal Conductor of the Santa Cecília International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal. Blaszczyk has been a juror and conductor at numerous international competitions such as the 2003 International Piano Competition in Rabat, Morocco and the Lutosławski Cello Competition in Warsaw. He has conducted concerts throughout the world with the Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra, from Poland to China, Japan, Tunisia, and the USA. He has made numerous recordings with the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, including first recordings of works by Henryk Górecki, Alexandre Tansman, and others. He has received numerous awards for his commitment to Polish and contemporary music, and has been a professor for orchestral and opera conducting at the Academy of Music in Katowice since 2012.
