Description
The work was commissioned by the NDR Hamburg for the concert event 'Sieben Horizonte' [Seven Horizons] by which the NDR Symphony Orchestra and its principal conductor Christoph Eschenbach together with the soloist Yaron Windmüller welcomed the new millennium at the Großer Saal of the Hamburg Music Hall on 2 January 2000.
'When I leafed through the volume of poems Lichtzwang, I came upon the poem „Du sei wie Du, immer“ which ends with the Hebrew word of Isaiah „kumi ori“ („arise and shine“). My first thought was that this enlight- enment was the hope for the next millennium: that what had happened in the past century would never happen again.' (Aribert Reimann)
