Description

Commissioned personally by Her Majesty the Queen to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the end of World War II, Commemoration 60 is scored for large forces, and uses them in dramatic ways. Invented hymns, fanfares and marches form a huge collage reminiscent of Charles Ives. The work concludes with the prayer for peace from the Latin Mass, rising to a massive climax for the full forces, then falling away to an ending suggesting hope.
