Wayne Shorter: New at Schott

Schott Music New York has signed a representation agreement with the Wayne Shorter Estate. This will make the concertante and symphonic works of the influential jazz master available for performance by orchestras and ensembles worldwide.

Wayne Shorter is a jazz legend! As a brilliant tenor saxophonist and composer, he has left a lasting mark on the music world. He played in the bands of Art Blakey, Miles Davis and above all in his own Wayne Shorter Quartet. His concert works are of equal importance and are among the most important pieces in his oeuvre.

Norman Ryan, Vice Presindent of Composers & Repertoire at Schott Music New York, on the new collaboration:

Wayne Shorter's exceptional artistry eschewed boundaries and embraced a universe of music in all its forms. Duly celebrated as a jazz legend with such iconic recordings as Speak No Evil, Night Dreamer, and Atlantis among countless others, Shorter's concert music works are equally deserving of broad exposure. We are thrilled and honored to begin this partnership with Carolina Shorter and the entire Shorter team and look forward to sharing this extraordinary music with conductors, concert planners and audiences worldwide.

Carolina Shorter, widow of Wayne Shorter, adds:

It’s a huge honor to embark on this partnership with Schott Music, as we believe they will masterfully accomplish the mission of exposing the most important, and yet almost unknown, part of Wayne’s music legacy, his magnificent orchestral compositions. We couldn’t be more thrilled!

Wayne Shorter (1933-2023) received so many honours during his impressive career that it is impossible to list them all. He has won a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Polar Prize, the Kennedy Center Honours and an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
