Description

For me, music expression used to be a method to find the harmony between human and nature; however, since the Tohoku earthquake in 2011, I began to re-contemplate how the existence of music should be. Music is a type of Shamanism; people pray by music, and calm the spirit of the deceased, creating a bridge between this world and afterlife. The two sopranos are Mikos in this piece. The first half of the music is an expression of a storm using only the orchestra. In the second half, the two sopranos sing Hermann Hesse’s poem which is a depiction of a flower that experienced storm and gradually regains the world of light. Toshio Hosokawa
