About Fabio Romano

Fabio Romano, pianist and teacher at the Hochschule for Music and Theater in Munich, was born in Palermo and was a pupil of Gerhard Oppitz, Eliodoro Sollima, and Gaetano Cellizza. He came to international attention in 2008 at the Sviatoslav Richter Competition in Moscow where his program combining avant-garde, modern, romantic, and classical works won the 4th prize and was very well received by the Russian critics. The following year, Tilman Urbach, in the magazine “Fono Forum”, declared him “Young Performer of the Year” for his thoughtful and compelling performances. At the invitation of Natalia Gutman, Romano made his debut at the Oleg Kagan Music Festival in Wildbad Kreuth in 2010. Fabio Romano has also performed in the Bolshoi Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, at the International Chamber Music Festival in Seoul, at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, as well as at the festivals in Zurich and Munich, the Römerbad festival, and the Summer Music Festival in Hitzacker. Recordings of both studio and live performances by Romano have been broadcast in Italy by the RAI, in Russia by Kultura Televidenje and Kultura Radio, and in Germany by Deutschland Funk, Deutschland Radio Berlin, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and Hessischer Rundfunk.
