An experienced peforming musician, composer and bandleader, Tim Richards is the author of Schott’s popular piano tutors Improvising Blues Piano and Exploring Jazz Piano.
Tim has toured the UK several times with his own trio and his nine-piece band ‘Great Spirit’,
internationally with his long-running modern jazz group ‘Spirit Level’, and has several CDs out on 33
Records and other labels.
Tim currently works as a jazz examiner for the Associated Board, has contributed pieces to their jazz piano syllabus as well as the Rock School ‘Popular Piano’ syllabus, and runs an annual short course for piano teachers at London’s City Lit. He is also a visiting tutor on the EPTA Piano Pedagogy course and course director of Premises Studios’ ‘Jazz Piano Week’ in Hackney and teaches jazz piano at London’s Goldsmiths and Morley Colleges. Tim is happy to conduct workshops with anyone wishing to incorporate jazz, blues or improvisation into their teaching.
