An experienced peforming musician, composer and band leader, Tim Richards is the author of popular piano tutors Improvising Blues Piano and Exploring Jazz Piano and co-author (with John Crawford) of Exploring Latin Piano.
Tim has toured the UK several times with his own trio and his nine-piece band ‘Great Spirit’, internationally with his long-running modern jazz group ‘Spirit Level’, and has several CDs out on 33 Records and other labels. Tim currently works as a jazz examiner for the Associated Board, has contributed pieces to their jazz piano syllabus as well as the Rock School ‘Popular Piano’ syllabus. He is also course director of Premises Studios' 'Jazz Piano Week' in Hackney and teaher jazz piano at Morley College and the City LIT, London. Tim has given jazz workshops for EPTA, ABRSM and small groups of piano teachers all over he UK and is a member of he jury for the Nottingham International Piano Cometition.
Tim's approach to his workshops is very practical and includes invaluable "hands-on" tips that can be applied directly to teaching and playing. The focus can be towards either blues or jazz. He can also give a presentation or demonstration on the material from his publications, if required.
