The 'Targeting Music' series

Targeting Music is a year-by-year series of 7 books for teachers in primary schools. The extensive range caters for each year group from reception through to year 6. Created by Dorothy Taylor, an established music educator with extensive teaching experience in primary, secondary and higher education, the series was designed to meet the needs of the National Curriculum.

The Reception Year book aims to establish musical experience through a body of traditional and original songs and as the series progresses the books deal, in an integrated, structured and sequential way, with the three areas of musical experience: listening and appraising, performing and composing. Ample guidance is provided for the teacher with an emphasis on musical learning, general learning and cross-curricular points on vocal development. The accompanying CDs offer further support.

The basic premise of the whole series is that the voice and physical movement are central to enjoyable and meaningful musical experience. The books are equally relevant to English-speaking countries and in teaching English as a foreign language.
