For nearly half a century the WERGO label has been synonymous with contemporary music. From the outset WERGO offered a forum to composers such as Stockhausen, Boulez, and Ligeti. Over the years they have been joined by names such as Henze, Hindemith, Cage, Nancarrow, and Reich, to name just a few. Today the label also documents the creations of more recent generations of composers.
The label’s productions are distinguished not only by excellent recording technique and high-quality manufacturing but also by informative texts by renowned authors as well as librettos and sung texts.
In addition to recordings of solo, chamber, and orchestral music, the program includes productions of art forms especially for radio and of the latest developments that play out in between the arts. The WERGO label is thus not only part of the history of New Music but also constantly contributes to its development.
