Description
Commissioned by the South West German Radio to mark the 200th birthday of Mozart, the Divertimento für Mozart was premiered at the Donaueschingen Music Days on 21 October 1956. The composer was given free rein in arranging the individual parts; there were only two requirements: It should be a work of a cheerful nature, based on thematic material of the aria ‚Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen wünscht Papageno sich‘. It is the wide variety of styles resulting therefrom that is the particular attraction of this score which examines twelve entirely different aspects of the Bird Catcher Song.
