Description
Emmeline Mosher is only 13 when she is sent away from her home town of Fayette, Maine to work in the cotton mills of Lynn, Massachusetts. Falling prey to the advances of her boss’ son, Mathew Gurney, she becomes pregnant and is again sent out of town to have the child. What follows is a series of catastrophic events in Emmeline’s life that ultimately lead to her ostracism from the community.
