On 6 December, at the suggestion of Schönberg, he became a member of the foundation committee of the Society for Private Musical Performances

In May Ullmann married for the first time and moved with this wife Martha to Vienna
1920
Active as a choir director and répétiteur, later also as a conductor at the New German Theatre under the direction of Alexander von Zemlinsky
The large number of compositions created during this period have to be regarded as lost, with the exception of a later version of VARIATIONEN, PHANTASIE UND DOPPELFUGE ÜBER EIN KLEINES KLAVIERSTÜCK VON ARNOLD SCHÖNBERG

In autumn Ullmann took over the direction of the Aussig Opera for one season
1929
Worked as a conductor and composer of incidental music at the Zurich Schauspielhaus
1931
First encounter with and intensive involvement in Rudolf Steiner´s anthroposophic movement; Ullmann gave up any musical activities, running an anthroposophic book shop in Stuttgart together with his second wife Anna whom he hab married in 1931
After the Nazis had seized power, he fled to Prague with his wife and his one-year old son Max; there he worked as a free-lance musician as from mid-1933
Worked in Leo Kestenberg´s International Society for Music Education

The establishment of the Reich Protectorate of Bohemian-Moravia deprived Ullmann of any chance of performing his works

Ullmann married for the third time
1942
Ullmann gave the prints of his compositions published by himself to his friend Alexander Waulin who had made the piano reduction of his opera DER STURZ DES ANTICHRIST
On 8 September Ullmann, his third wife Elisabeth (together with a daughter from her first marriage) and his first wife Martha were deported to the concentration camp at Theresienstadt
At Theresienstadt Ullmann continued to work intensively as a composer, interpreter and reviewer. He was director of the Studio for New Music which had a great influence on the musical life at Theresienstadt. Among the numerous works created there, most of which are lost , were the opera DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS and the STRING QUARTET NO.3
1944
On 16 October Ullmann and his third wife Elisabeth were taken to Ausschwitz where he was killed in the gas chamber probably two days later
Before his death Ullmann gave the Theresienstadt manuscripts to his friend Emil Utitz, asking him to forward them to Hans Günther Adler - in case both of them survived
