The State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Riga was formed in the summer of 2006; its artistic director is the oboist and conductor Normunds Sne. The orchestra has defined its creative mission statement by four general points: openness to different forms of music – ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary music; readiness to experiment in both academic and non-academic musical directions; tirelessness in its quest for new audiences; and relentless in maintaining the highest professional standards. Sinfonietta Riga not only performs as a full chamber orchestra but also in a variety of ensembles for chamber works. Sinfonietta Riga has premiered six works in each of its first two seasons.
