Dietrich Buxtehude war zuerst Organist in Helsingborg und Helsingör, später an der Marienkirche in Lübeck. Johann Sebastian Bach reiste nach Lübeck, um Buxtehude zu hören und von ihm zu lernen. Buxtehude schrieb Kammermusik, Vokalmusik und Orgelmusik.
