Description
The chamber opera Albert – warum? takes us to a remote village and describes the martyrdom of the “village idiot” Albert. The certainties of his life break down during the play: his father throws him out of his home, his mother dies, his childhood sweetheart Anna falls in love with someone else, the people of the village mock him and abuse him every time he tries to assert himself. In the end death is the only way he can escape and find peace: Albert hangs himself in the graveyard.
