Saxophonist, composer and arranger Nicolas Simion reworks melodies and rhythms from the musical folklore of his homeland in the Transsylvanian region and from throughout the Balkans, which he then allows to coalesce and flow into the broad stream of Afro-American jazz, laced with World Music elements.
Simion is joined by an experienced ensemble including the legendary Yugoslavian trumpet player Dusko Goykovich.
Balkan Jazz is a coproduction with Deutsche Welle Radio and was recorded live in Cologne's Stadtgarten Club.
