Description
Somebody once said that music falls into three types: head music, heart music, and belly music. May I be permitted to attempt all three at once? (Detlev Glanert)
The goal of Glanert's work is not to explore terra incognita but rather to illuminate those areas which lie permanently in plain view, landscapes whose poetry, thanks to oversaturation, we are nowadays incapable of perceiving. His object is to break through the layers of sediment that weigh upon tradition in order to make the familiar suddenly seem strange and wonderful. Glanert wishes neither to conserve nor to negate tradition. Instead, by elaborating unusual perspectives, even in the debris of history, he attempts to salvage something of those unrealized utopias that threaten to vanish with the passage of time, together with the historical material that supported them. Glanert is a magician of sounds who makes no pretense of the artificiality of his creations. We can allow ourselves to be seduced and become aware of our own madness, the madness of living in a world that will forever remain an enigma and is yet our home.
