Description
The simultaneity of different musical processes is characteristic of many of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's works. One of the earliest works in which influences of, e.g., James Joyce and of the surrealists are discernible is "Présence", a work for piano trio, but the limits of the genre are consciously transgressed. The participants are Don Quichotte, Roi Ubu and Molly Bloom, which - represented by an instrument each - take part in a fictive communication with each other. A situation of communication that consciously exposes itself to conflicts and then makes them artistically productive by forming unusual constellations of sound is also characteristic of "Intercomunicazione".
