He rose attention as early as 1985, when he was awarded at the "Forum junger deutscher Komponisten für Orchestermusik" with the first performance of his Vier Orchesterstücke op. 5 by the Saarländisches Staatsorchester Saarbrücken under the direction of Matthias Kuntzsch. In 1990 Heucke received the "Förderpreis der Stadt Dortmund für junge Künstler" for his complete works, and from 1996-98 he profited by a scholarship of the Werner-Richard-Dr.-Carl-Dörken Foundation of Witten, North Rhine-Westphalia which enabled him to compose the dance oratorio Die Ordnung der Erde (The Order of the Earth) op. 30. Heucke was awarded the Hans-Werner-Henze-Prize 2007 of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe.
Since 1985 Heucke has made live recordings and productions with various radio broadcasting companies (Saarländischer Rundfunk, WDR, SDR), and since 1989 he has been teaching music theory at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Department of Dortmund. He collaborates with renowned orchestras and conductors and was commissioned by internationally noted soloists. His works are regularly performed in Germany and abroad (a.o. in Paris, Moscow, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Rostov on the Don, Utrecht), some are already available on CD.
Heucke lives as a freelance composer in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia.
