Description
This work explores the mood and events at Jesus' last appearance before his arrest in the garden of Gethsemane. The Gospels say that this incident was fraught, with three occasions of urgent prayer as well as his warnings to the disciples to stay awake and provide support in the last fearful hours.
All motifs are based on a tone row expressing the recurrent theme of urgent and desperate praying. The freely moving line of the trumpet refers to Jesus' spirituality already detached from all earthly things, while he, surrounded by his band of disciples, becomes aware of his uniqueness and loneliness.
