Description
In the introduction to the piece, dedicated to Michael Faust, the flute "scans" a striking tonal figure in the style of a "free sound speech". In the main section, Höller makes use of the second meaning of the title by "scanning" the 22-note sound shape, examining the effectiveness and development of its individual parts, taking it apart and screening it. The time shape - the sequence of bars - and metre are derived from the elemental form of the sound shape, which takes on the meaning of the compositional structure of a "cantus firmus" underneath the score.
