Description
Jost has set to music 'Melancholy' and 'Afternoon', two tender poems by Kiki Dimoula, the most important contemporary Greek lyricist. Combining the human voice with the sound of a string quartet, he treats the mezzo-soprano like an expressive musical instrument which is not just accompanied by the string quartet.
Although each of the songs has its own sound image, a connecting passage, a fluid transition of the string quartet, is like a great arc over the entire work. Differentiated dynamics follow the text context; sound and character capture the atmosphere of a summer afternoon in Greece.
In our edition, the music is preceded by the Greek original texts including translation; in the score, Latin letters are written underneath the original text.
