Description
This ten-minute aria fragment comes from Rodion Shchedrin's oratorio 'The Enchanted Wanderer'.
The piece is divided into two sections: It begins with an arioso vocal part above the pianistically demanding piano accompaniment. With an accelerando, this section leads to virtuoso rows of onomatopoeic syllables of the soloist, highlighted by the piano in a rousing manner. A typical work by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, full of virtuosity and passion, which reveals his roots in Russian folk music. Our edition contains both the Russian original text and a transliteration.
