In 2010 the musical world will celebrate the 200th birthday of Robert Schumann. Many concerts will be dedicated to his oeuvre, featuring solo concertos, symphonies, piano works, and song-cycles. Without Schumann, 20th-century music would be quite different. The fusion of radical subjectivity and mastery of form, and his characteristic modernity and individuality has inspired and influenced many composers who came after him. Composers today have referred to Schumann unlike any other composer.
