Description
The starting point for Édouard Lock's ballet for La La La Human Steps was those moments that one might call "iconic" in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. I was given a list of pieces from the ballet suites and asked if I could take this music and restructure it, while retaining the essence of the original music. My aim was to find a balance between providing a direct and recognizable reference to the Tchaikovsky source and my own compositional idiom. (Gavin Bryars)
