Description

Peteris Vasks originally composed his Missa for a cappella choir and for choir with organ, but he has discovered the ideal counterpart to the unconcealed emotional nature of vocal parts in his new version with string orchestra. Vasks sees the string timbre as a form of instrumental song capable of conveying the ’direct message’ of his music which – as a member of a Protestant family – he has clothed in the traditional form of the Catholic Mass.
