Description

Unusually, Mozart's "Horn Concerto No. 1 in D major" KV 412 consists only of an allegro and rondo movement. A pupil of Rota's subsequently asked him to compose a slow middle movement which was completely missing. Although Rota did not fall back on original material by Mozart, he composed the "Andante sostenuto" as a sort of style copy which closely follows Mozart's personal style. He aimed at combining outer movements and middle movement to form a self-contained unit which makes a complete performance of the concerto possible. In this version, the "Andante sostenuto" is still awaiting its premiere.
