Description
The libretto of The Macau Bride was written by the renowned Macao writer Choi San and choreographed by Ying Eding. The dance drama which was commissioned by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government in 2000 and premiered at the 12th Macao Arts Festival 2001, narrates the love story of the Chinese sailor Qin Gao and the Portuguese damsel Maria, the daughter of his captain. After she has been kidnapped by pirates, Qin Gao and the other sailors set off impulsively to rescue her regardless of their own safety. Assisted by his men and native Africans, Qin is able to vanquish the pirates and finally marry his beloved Maria.
