On the occasion of the Korean composer Isang Yun's 80th birthday, Wergo has released the digitized version of an LP (which had been published in 1968 and then been awarded the "Grand Prix du Disque" of the Academie Charles Cros), with Yun's works "Loyang", "Gasa", "Réak" (recording of the first performance) and Tuyaux sonores - completed by a recording of Antoinette Vischer's interpretation of "Shao Yang Yin" - on CD.
The often exotic impression created by Yun's music is achieved by the use of special playing techniques. The expressive possibilities of the strings in particular are expanded in Yun's scores, but winds, too, are used in an unusual way, often brought closer to East Asian instruments in their tonal character and playing technique. Harps and the rich percussion in Yun's works have a significance that goes beyond isolated effects. They often serve to create suggestions of the Far East.
