Description:

'Colour which, like music, is a matter of vibrations, reaches what is most general and therefore most indefinable in nature: its inner power.' Paul Gauguin

On 17 September 1999, a logical step towards synaesthetic art creation was taken at the Cathedral of Worms for the first time. Whereas Economos had turned well-known existing musical works into paintings until then, both a musical work and a painting were to be created simultaneously this time. While being in close visual and audible contact, the two masters of their trade, Jean Guillou at the organ and Gérard Economos at the easel, jointly created sound material, painted sounds.
It is this classic union of time, space and creative process and the immediate mutual influence involved that make this event particularly attractive and unique. Thus, painting also describes itself as contemporary art and music as colour art.
The musical work and the painting thus created will remain separate independent works which are unaffected by each other, but their shared time and space frame will act as a double passe-partout.

'The primeval essence of colour is a phantasmagorical resonance, light becomes music.' (Johannes Itten)
