Film music grows evermore popular. It attracts enthusiastic listeners, especially among the young, and is now often a first introduction for many to the concert hall. There are some outstanding works in the Schott repertoire, from music to accompany classic silent films composed by Paul Dessau, Paul Hindemith, Richard Strauss and Enjott Schneider, to original soundtracks by important contemporary composers, such as Hans Werner Henze, Toru Takemitsu, Krzysztof Penderecki and Bernd Alois Zimmermann.

We are particularly pleased to have selected film scores by two internationally celebrated 'grand masters' of film music in our catalogue. Details of Nino Rota’s suites from classic films by Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini can be found on pages 28-36, and we are especially proud of a new name in our catalogue: Howard Shore whose music of The Lord of the Rings is now considered to be a masterpiece of film music. His works are now distributed by Schott and can be found on pages 46-51.
