Description
"My imagination, once it was let loose in this place, drew me into a tremendous conflict with myself, for these texts cannot be composed like a telephone-book, they present a challenge and push one into profound depths again and again, definitions begin to waver and positions begin to vacillate", says Volker David Kirchner about the composition of his "Missa Moguntina" which is especially meant for the Mainz cathedral: Kirchner had spent many hours in this cathedral to study its special atmosphere, acoustics, noises of walking people, the whole place, in order to make it sound in his music. The text of the "Missa Moguntina" is based on the latin mass order with psalm 130 "De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine" inserted between Gloria and Credo. Thus the Credo begins at the absolutely lowest point possible, in order to lead it, omitting all historical appositions, to its climax "Et resurrexit". Press review: "... Kirchner found the way to the new light. His Missa is something very special and so is the interpretation ..." (vL: Allgemeine Zeitung, 23. November 1993)
