Die Weihnachtliche Suite entstand im Jahr 1950 im Auftrag des Kleinen Orchesters des Südwestfunks Baden-Baden. Mit vitaler Spielfreude und kontrapunktischer Sicherheit werden bekannte Weihnachtslieder kunstvoll miteinander verwoben. So erkennt der Zuhörer im Andante Melodiezeilen von In dulci jubilo und Vom Himmel hoch, im Allegro con brio Vom Himmel hoch und Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, in der Pastorale Vom Himmel hoch, o Englein kommt! und Stille Nacht, im Scherzando Morgen kommt der Weihnachtmann bis die Trompete in der abschließenden Passacaglia feierlich noch einmal Vom Himmel hoch über dem verwoben Stimmensatz intoniert. Ein festliches Stück, das schon so manches Weihnachtprogramm bereicherte.
