What’s on this season. . .

As a new season begins we're proud to announce a plethora of premieres all over the world. Within these there are orchestral pieces, large dramatic works as well as a multitude of vocal and chamber works. It's worth checking our updated list as more premieres will be added when details are confirmed.

Children’s book Die Omama im Apfelbaum (Jungbrunnen Publishers): The idea for Elisabeth Naske’s piece for the Vienna State Opera.

Large operas always attract special attention: October sees the premiere of the opera Cantor by Ingomar Grünauer in Halle – a scenic portrayal of the life and ideas behind the mathematician Georg Cantor, creator of the chaos theory. The premiere had originally been scheduled for 2005 but had to be moved to 2006 just a few days prior to the opening night – but now it’s really going to be Cantor time! Stefan Heucke is involved in an exciting project with the Stage Union of the cities of Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. The music theatre piece The Women’s Orchestra of Auschwitz looks at the development of the orchestra in a concentration camp in 1944 . It's written after a libretto by his brother Clemens Heucke and will be premiered in September.

The Paper Nautilus is the name of Gavin Bryars’ "magic journey into the unknown ". The phantastic chamber play - inspired by Jules Verne – will be staged in Glasgow in November. Die Omama im Apfelbaum (Grandmama in the Appletree) is big fun for little people! The new children’s piece by popular composer Elisabeth Naske again uses - as in her latest success The Fire-Redhead Friederike - a children’s book by Austrian authors Mira Lobe and Susi Weigel. Die Omama im Apfelbaum has been commissioned by the Vienna State Opera and will be premiered (on its roof!) in April 2007.

A paper nautilus: Gavin Bryars dedicates his music theatre The Paper Nautilus to this ancient inhabitant of the seas.

Amongst the new stage works, Rodion Shchedrin’s new piece could be a big surprise. The ’Russian choir-opera’ Boyarina Morozova will be premiered at the Moscow Conservatory in mid-October. It is a piece for soloists, mixed choir, trumpet, timpani and percussion and with this line up, is reminiscent of his successful oratorio The Sealed Angel and promises to be a major new addition to the repertoire .

Israeli composer Chaya Czernowin has a number of large-scale works in the upcoming season that will see their premieres in east Germany. Her oratorio Pilgerfahrten has been commissioned by the European Centre of Arts for the Dresden Days for Contemporary Music 2006. Among others, the prestigous and venerable Dresden Choir of the Cross will be joining its premiere. During Berlin's MaerzMusik Festival, her one-hour cycle Maim I-III for six soloists and large orchestra will be premiered on 17 March 2007.

Chaya Czernowin: World premieres of Pilgerfahrten and Maim I-III

There are a number of very interesting orchestral works we are looking forward to: At the Donaueschinger Music Days , contributions by Richard Ayres (No. 37b in the opening concert) and Jörg Widmann (Zweites Labyrinth in last night’s concert) can be heard. Kamran Ince will write a new piece for Present Music in Milwaukee, Wilhelm Killmayer Dithyramben, Christian Jost a new Concerto for Orcestra and Tatjana Komarova’s triple concerto at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf . Peter Maxwell Davies writes a new work for the Bremen Philharmonic.
