Robert Beaser’s Vision at Dawn in Premiere in Dallas
Vision at Dawn, Robert Beaser’s new work for SATB vocal quartet and piano, premieres at the Dallas Museum of Art on March 31, 2007. The work was commissioned by the Dallas Museum of Art for the Southeastern Festival of Song for a gala concert entitled “generation m: modern masters from the mid-century to the moment.” On the genesis of the work, Beaser comments:
"I was asked to write a work for vocal quartet and piano celebrating art and the creation of art, and I turned to a friend of mine, the poet Daniel Mark Epstein, with whom I have collaborated before. Daniel directed me to a striking and evocative poem which he had written and allowed me the freedom to adapt it to fit the nature of the musical and poetic narrative which ensued. The work, using both male voice soli and choral refrains, draws the poignant symbiosis between our fleeting personal epiphanies and the vision of the artist who makes them concrete."
Looking ahead, Beaser has been commissioned by the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra to compose a new symphonic work which will have a world premiere in June 2008 in Boston and will subsequently be taken on tour with the orchestra through Europe.
