Music of R. Murray Schafer now available from Schott Music
From 1 January 2012, Schott Music has become the worldwide representative, excluding the USA and Canada, of the Arcana catalogue. The catalogue contains the complete oeuvre of R. Murray Schafer. Born in Sarnia (Ontario) in 1933, the Canadian artist is one of the leading sound researchers, composers, music theorists and music educators of our time. His comprehensive oeuvre focuses on symphonic works and includes the 12-part music-theatre cycle 'Patria'. Schafer has also written numerous choral and chamber works.
'Everything we hear is music.' These words became Schafer's guiding principle at the end of the 1960s when he began treading new paths. His book 'The Tuning of the World' was the first essay ever published on the relationship of man to his acoustic environment in historico-cultural terms. A German translation was published by Schott in 2010.
Schafer's works are available from Schott Music since 1 January 2012. Alongside this, Schott is also preparing the German translation of Schafer's book about the connection between the creation and perception of music, 'HearSing', for publication in 2012.
