Work of the Week - Enjott Schneider: Organ Symphony No. 11

Far from the usual hype that surrounds Christmas, Enjott Schneider's latest piece, Organ Symphony No. 11, takes a more reflective view on the advent period. On Tuesday 13th December, organist Hans Leitner, to whom the work is dedicated, will give the world premiere at Munich’s Frauendom.
Both childhood anticipation and meditative peacefulness are captured by Schneider in the four movement work as he weaves together many different sources including the Hymn of St. Ambrose, a verse of the prophet Isaiah, Martin Luther’s chorale 'Now come, Saviour of the gentiles' and a powerful Toccata.
Schneider is one of the most important film music composers in Germany and his sacred music is equally celebrated. As part of his extensive catalogue he has composed thirteen organ symphonies in the past six years and Vivaldissimo, the composer's work for two trumpets, orchestra and harpsichord will be performed at the Brandenburg Theatre on 18th of December
