World première: Bayerisch-babylonischer Marsch by Jörg Widmann

When Kent Nagano told the composer Jörg Widmann about his idea of presenting the original programme marking the establishment of the Musikalische Akademie of the Bayerische Staatsorchester (December 1811) in a concert in 2011, but with the inclusion of a new contemporary commission, Widmann responded enthusiastically. The occasion gave him the opportunity to express his affinity with Kent Nagano and the orchestra of the Bayerische Staatsoper and he composed a Bayerisch-babylonischer Marsch, an extremely fast and virtuosic piece in which a variety of superimposed and contradictory dance forms become unified in a boisterous frolic.
