Music of Howard Shore Featured On Kentucky Symphony’s Of Myths and Rings Program; Shore Honored at Ghent Film Festival

On October 8 the Kentucky Symphony opens its 20th season with selections from Howard Shore’s Grammy and Academy Award-winning scores to The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Featured on the symphony’s Of Myth and Rings program, Shore’s music is paired with selections from Richard Wagner’s iconic opera cycle The Ring of the Nibelung. Doug Adams, noted specialist on Howard Shore’s LTR scores, joins the orchestra for a comparison of the legends surrounding both “rings” and each composer’s musical approach in adapting the stories to the culture and technology of their time.

Shore’s music is featured again this month on October 22 on the closing ceremony of the 38th International Ghent Film Festival. An excerpt from Concertino from Eastern Promises, Mount Doom from Return of the King and an excerpt from Suite for Richard from the film Looking For Richard, directed by Al Pacino are performed by the  Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé.
