Merce Cunningham Dance Company and Gavin Bryars - BIPED
Gavin Bryars’ classic ballet BIPED was commissioned as a new work by the world famous choreographer Merce Cunningham in 1999. Since then, the dance work has been performed by the company all over the world.
Following the chorographer’s death in 2009 the Merce Cunningham Dance Company launched a two-year legacy tour starting in February 2010 to celebrate Cunningham’s artistic achievement and giving audiences around the world a final opportunity to see his work performed by the company that he trained before they disband. BIPED will be performed on 8th October at the Barbican, London with music performed live by the Gavin Bryars Ensmeble; it will be the final night of their London dates.
